During the recent break, like many people, I was clearing out all those old files from my computer. You know, the half completed documents where you have forgotten what they were supposed to be for in the first place.
Well I came across one suspect doc, but on opening it, found a collection of ideas I had jotted down over a few years; mainly from motivational speakers, service desk events (that used to be my thing) and network meetings – the sort of ideas that sounded a good idea at the time. Of course, some were as bonkers and random as you might expect, but there were some snippets of good stuff in there, so I thought I’d share a few on here, now and again.
First up, a classic four point plan for reviewing any enterprise, be it individual or a whole business.
- What are the good things that you do that you must keep doing?
- What are the bad things that you do that you must stop doing?
- What things do you do only occasionally that you should do consistently?
- What things don’t you do that you really should start doing?
I really like this as it strips away all the techno – in vogue – sigma type stuff (which I’m sure has its place), and gets down to simple concepts that everyone can relate to. Even if you identify just one thing for each category, that’s got to be a good thing. Quick wins ahead!
